My best artwork this year was my plate in my multiples set. I like it so much because of the colors I used. I like the way the colors go so well together and the splatter technique I used. I also like how it turned out the best shape/form of all my artworks. It is very functional and will work good to actually use.
I would like to redo the relief tile artwork because it broke on me and I'm still mad about it. I had other artworks break on me like the slab box, but I didn't like that artwork at all. I wanted my relief tile to turn out. I can use the patience I learned in this class and put it into other areas of my life. Also things like persistence and working with small objects and being detailed. It would have been cool to do like a big class project to make one big structure.

For this artwork I chose to make a dinner set. A large spoon, a bowl, and a plate for the bowl to sit on. For the different glazing techniques I chose to use tape masking and a splatter technique that I really like. The plate turned out to be my favorite because the the 3 base colors that go very well together. I used a black splatter because it goes well with everything. The hardest parts of making these were shaping the objects perfectly and making them stay that way and also the tape masking took a bit of time to figure out what pattern I wanted to go with.
For this artwork I chose to make a sculpture of a wheel. I chose to make a wheel in attempt to express that I work at Discount Tire, but that is not the only reason I chose to make this. There is a surprising amount of people that have no idea what exactly a tire or wheel is. They think that when they get new tires, they get a whole new wheel as well which is very much not true. Wheels can cost as much as 800 dollars per wheel! That isn't even the most expensive either. So basically I made this artwork to show where I work and to communicate that people should have a better understanding of wheels and tires. The biggest complication I had in making this artwork was actually getting the machined look perfectly brushed on the black surface.
For this project I used tape masking to glaze my test tile and my bowl. My test tile masking did not turn out at all how I wanted, so I glazed over it using a splatter technique. My final piece I used (bowl) for the assignment turned out good and I am very satisfied with it. I will be using this tape masking technique on some of my future projects.
I had a few difficulties in making this relief tile. The main problem was it first cracked when it was in the leatherhard stage when I set it on the table. Then Nick decided to move the tile out of his way and he slid it into my cubby that was on the table and he broke a large chunk out of the corner. What I did to fix these things were to just glaze it as if it was one piece and I developed craft and hot glued it together.
During this coil vessel project I learned how to use coils of clay to build a structure. For some reason I had to smooth out the sides of my bowl which seemed to defeat the purpose of using coils but it worked all in all. I didn't have many struggles with this assignment other than getting the coils the correct size. I chose to use blue gray glaze on the inside of the bowl and hot tamale on the outside.
For this slab box I ran into a lot of issues that I had to overcome and engage and persist. First the walls of the box cracked from being on the heat register, so I had to redo them. Then the walls I slipped together cracked back open after drying, so I had to re-slip them. Lastly I forgot to cut the top off to make the lid, so I ended up just forming a lip underneath the top slab and used it as a lid. I used tiger tail and bright orange for glazes and I really wish I wouldn't have done tiger tail. I don't like how it turned out.
This Texture roller was fairly easy to make, I tried to envision how the design would look on paper and I honestly wish I would've chose a different design. I have yet to figure out how the design looks in its final form after being fired.
I used Shiny black and Dutch blue glazes. Everything went smooth except right before I was going to get it fired I forgot to put a hole in the middle so I had to use a exacto knife to cut a hole. I had to engage and persist. The sphere turned out very well and I used a creative design to go all the way around it.
